Barack Obama: Investments bring significant economic and strategic gains to Azerbaijan and its foreign partners

An East-West energy corridor was founded thanks to prudent and deliberate policy of Azerbaijani National leader Heydar Aliyev, and the investments brought significant trade, economic and strategic gains to Azerbaijan and its foreign partners, U.S. President Barack Obama said in his message to the 18th International Caspian Oil and Gas, Refining & Petrochemicals Exhibition and Conference in Baku. U.S. State Department Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar read out Obama’s message.

"Your decision to join the largest and complex project in the world - the Southern Energy Corridor will give impetus to the economy and beginning of a new phase in Azerbaijan's energy sector, as well as will contribute to further improvements in the gas sphere," the message reads.

The Southern Corridor is a priority EU energy project diversifying energy supply routes and sources and increasing EU energy security. The Southern Corridor includes the Nabucco gas pipeline, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), White Stream, and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline).

Investments in the Azerbaijani energy sector will accelerate the process of integration into the global economy and improve the living standards of Azerbaijani people, Obama said in his message.
"The United States seeks to continue a sustainable cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy security field and development of multivector [economy] with a view to achieve progress and stability in the Caucasus region," the message reads.
