Ukraine seeks to find compromise with RF on gas price--Bakulin

KIEV, June 7 (Itar-Tass) - The Ukrainian side makes every effort to
find a compromise with Russia on gas issues, Yevgeny Bakulin, chief of the
Naftogaz Ukrainy Company told, local television on Monday night.
Bakulin said if the price of gas is not changed for Ukraine, "There
would arise the need to reduce gas consumption". In this connection he
emphasized that the country intends to increase its own production of
hydrocarbon raw materials.
"We are discussing possibilities for the use of new technologies for
drilling deep wells, and of non-traditional sources of fuel. The purpose
of that entire package of measures would be to reduce the import of gas
from Russia," Bakulin said. He pointed out that Ukraine is also planning
to increase the share of coal in the energy balance.
