Shchyogolev in Tehran to discuss RF-Iran telecomm coop'n
TEHRAN, June 7 (Itar-Tass) - Igor Shchyogolev, Russian Minister of
Communications and Mass Media, arrives in Iran on Tuesday for a three-day
working visit to discuss matters concerning the establishment of a cable
system that will link Europe and the Middle East, as well as the
broadcasting of Russian TV channels in Iran, and the problems of radio
frequency regulation, a Russian Telecommunications Ministry official said.
Shchyogolev is to hold talks with Reza Tagipur, Iranian Minister of
Communications and Information Technologies, Ali Akbar Salehi, Minister of
Foreign Affairs, and Hamid Fazeli, Director of the Space Agency of Iran.
The RF Communications Ministry official pointed out, "During
businesslike meetings the sides are to discuss cooperation between the
major telecommunication operators of Russia and Iran -- Rostelecom and the
Telecommunication Infrastructure Company (TIC)". During the Minister's
visit, the sides are to discuss possibilities for broadcasts by the
Russian TV channels RTR-Planet and Russia 24-- in Iran," the RF Ministry
official added.
"The theme of radio frequency regulation will be touched upon
separately from the viewpoint of interaction between the communications
administrations of Russia and Iran on matters concerning
international-legal protection of frequency allocations to satellite-aided
networks and radio electronic means of ground services," the Ministry
official specified.
Shchyogolev is also to visit Iran's Communications Monitoring and
Supervision Service and State-run Radio and Television Organization, and
tour an exhibition of communications and information technologies.
