Caspian Oil and Gas-2011 exhibition opens in Baku Tue

BAKU, June 7 (Itar-Tass) - A Caspian Oil and Gas-2011 regular
international exhibition opens in the capital of Azerbaijan on Tuesday. It
is held here for a 18th time now and is to run until June 10, said an
official at the exhibition organizing committee.
Organizers point out that the exhibition has drawn 285 companies from
27 coutnries. There will be also the National display stands of Russia,
Britain, Turkey, and Germany, the companies of which engage in
Azerbaijan's energy projects. It is expected that the opening ceremony
will be attended by Azerbaijani President Ilkham Aliyev, and by the
directors of energy agencies of Russia, the United States, Norway,
Georgia, Hungary, Turkmenistan, and other countries.
The exhibition has been arranged in two halls of the Baku Expo Center.
On view are the newest oil and gas production equipment, innovation
technologies for the production and transportation of energy resources.
"The programme for the exhibition provides for the holding of seminars and
presentations of the world's leading companies of the oil and gas sector,"
the organizing committee official pointed out.
It has been also announced here that a two-day oil and gas conference
will be held within the framework of the exhibition from June 8 to 9 to
discuss matters of current importance concerning the production of
hydrocarbons, Caspian ecology, the ensurance of sufficiency in the
provision of Europe with energy resources, as well as the growing role of
Azerbaijan as a transiter country.
Expert estimate is that the reserves of hydrocarbons in the Caspian
region amount to 200,000 million barrels of oil and 640 trillion cubic
metres of gas. Azerbaijan's extractable reserves are estimated at 2,000
million tonnes of oil and 2.2 trillion cu. m. of gas, and potential ones
are believed to be twice as great.
