Medvedev to negotiate with Equatorial Guinea president in Moscow

MOSCOW, June 6 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and
African Union President and Equatorial Guinea's leader Teodoro Obiang
Nguema Mbasogo, who will arrive on an official visit in Russia on Monday,
will have negotiations here on Monday to focus on a tense situation in
North Africa and bilateral cooperation, particularly military-technical
and energy cooperation, the Russian presidential press service reported on
Sunday.
"Currently Russia and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea are building
up a contractual and legal basis of relations," the press service said.
"During a Moscow visit of the Equatorial Guinean president the countries
are planned to sign intergovernmental agreements on military-technical
cooperation and on mutual protection and encouragement of investments, a
memorandum on mutual understanding between the Russian Foreign Ministry
and the Equatorial Guinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International
Cooperation and Francophone Affairs over a schedule of political
consultations, as well as the agreements on mutual operation between
Gazprom Neft Equatorial B.V. and Guinea Ecuatorial de Petroleos," the
press service reported.
"During the negotiations on bilateral relations the countries will
focus on the establishment of trade and economic cooperation and a more
complete realization of the potential in bilateral ties," the press
service said. "The sides will discuss the fuel and energy sector,
particularly more intensive direct business contacts, and a more vigorous
participation of Russian economic entities in the joint projects in
Equatorial Guinea, as well as scientific-technical cooperation among the
most promising trends in bilateral trade and economic cooperation," the
press service said.
"The Russian president and the African Union president will
synchronize their positions on a broad range of topical international and
regional problems, including the current situation in the flashpoints in
Africa, a tense situation in West and North Africa, as well as in the
Middle East, particularly in Libya, Syria and Yemen," the Kremlin press
service said. "The interlocutors are expected to discuss in detail a
consistent development of African countries, peacemaking, the search for
the ways to settle the current conflicts on the African continent that put
up major obstacles on the way to attain stability and socio-economic
growth in the African states," the press service reported.
