Leyla Aliyeva: AMOR has done much work and achieved sufficiently good results over two-year activity
The third conference of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia, AMOR started Saturday in the Tavrichesky Palace in Saint-Petersburg. The event will sum up the youth organization’s activity over the last years and define a development strategy, Trend reported.
The conference started with the performance of national anthems of Azerbaijan and Russia.
Later a documentary telling about AMOR’s large-scale activity over the last year was demonstrated.
Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Chairperson of AMOR Leyla Aliyeva made opening remarks to the event. She thanked the Azerbaijani youth of Russia for successful work and active position.
According to Aliyeva, AMOR has been existing for two years. The organization has done much work and achieved sufficiently good results during this period. Aliyeva stressed the AMOR expands its geographical presence, adding now the Azerbaijani youth clubs operate not only in Moscow and St Petersburg, but also in Arkhangelsk, Tver, Ekaterinburg and several other regions. "Our organization seeks to cover all spheres of youth life: sports, health, education and culture," she added.
Aliyeva spoke about the actions, events and meetings held by AMOR over the past two years. She particularly emphasized the Justice for Khojaly campaign, which aims at bringing the truth about this tragedy, which took place in February 1992 and killed 613 civilians - women, children and old persons, to international community’s attention. "Khojaly is the Azerbaijani people’s pain and it will never be forgotten. I am confident that soon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be resolved fairly and Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity will be restored," Aliyeva said. "Actions are taken within the campaign in all continents - conferences are held, books are published and films are shot. In this way, more and more people in the world are aware of the Khojaly tragedy."
Aliyeva stressed that the organization focuses on education and promotion of Azerbaijan. "AMOR increasingly familiarizes Russian youth, as well as the country’s Azerbaijani youth with history, culture and literature of Azerbaijan," she underscored. "It is gratifying that Azerbaijani Sunday schools are opened in many Russian regions. Soon Azerbaijani room will open at the Foreign Literature Library to inform all interested people, along with representatives of Azerbaijani youth, with information about Azerbaijan."
In addition, AMOR pays great attention to health and healthy life. The campaign "Blood Has No Nation" has been held over the past few years, within which the organization’s volunteers donate blood to people in need free of charge. This campaign covers not only Moscow, but also the Russian regions. AMOR also organizes campaign "Make sure you are healthy - Say "NO" to diseases", within which free medical examination of the desired is conducted. The organization has a joint project with UNAIDS - Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, as part of which AMOR’s activists carry out educational work about AIDS at universities and schools, talk about dangers of drugs, tobacco, and deliver relevant lectures in regions.
AMOR pays great attention to sports. Aliyeva informed that the championship on mini-football for the Heydar Aliyev Cup has been held for three years. "It is pleasant that the championship involves more and more people and representatives of the regions also join it," she underscored. "The organization supports brain-ring team and arranges championship on the game "What? Where? When?"
"I want to emphasize that Azerbaijani clubs existing in most Russian universities organize events regularly," Aliyeva said. "I would like to thank the organizers of these events for such initiatives, because days of Azerbaijani music and cuisine were held during these years. Today Azerbaijani clubs in Russia can serve as an example because of their activity."
"We seek to decently represent our national culture, traditions, customs, and treat our nation’s rich historical and cultural heritage with love, at the same time we respect the cultural diversity of the world," Aliyeva stressed. "Azerbaijan and Russia for many years have been linked with ties of good neighborliness and friendship," she highlighted.
"It should be emphasized that at the last Eurovision Song Contest Azerbaijan received the first 12 points from Russia. Personally, it was some kind of sign for me, a harbinger of a brilliant victory. It is impossible to compare a feeling of pride and gladness you experience when your country wins with anything else. I invite you all to Azerbaijan next year - to Eurovision 2012."
Addressing the conference, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu said AMOR has proved itself as an active and essential organization of modern community since its establishment. "Thanks to the organization’s chairperson Leyla Aliyeva’s active position and organizational skills AMOR has become Azerbaijan’s evident voice in the vast space of Russia over its just two-year activity," he said.
According to Bulbuloglu, AMOR has become an important and necessary tool for further development of the youth mutual relations, traditionally friendly Russian-Azerbaijani relations in all spheres of public life.
Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov spoke about Azerbaijan’s youth policy and the preparation of another state program "Azerbaijani youth in 2011-2015".
According to Rahimov, AMOR’s diversified activity is aimed at supporting physical and moral health of the Azerbaijani youth in Russia, which is more than 170,000 people in number. Rahimov also stressed that AMOR contributes to the development of citizenship, using very necessary and useful forms of work - through culture, education and social projects. "AMOR is a bridge with two-way traffic, Azerbaijan and Russia are interested in the success of your initiatives," Rahimov said.
Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Political Analysis and Information Provision Department head Elnur Aslanov in his speech made a brief excursion into the history of the Azerbaijani-Russian relations since the collapse of the Soviet Union. He underscored the importance of high-level relations between the two countries and their peoples. Aslanov stressed that Azerbaijan has a very careful attitude towards the relations with Russia. "The youth of both countries face great challenges to further strengthen these relations, a high level of which is supported by our presidents - Ilham Aliyev and Dmitry Medvedev," he said.
"Today, the Azerbaijani youth of Russia have opportunities to strengthen the scientific, cultural and educational ties. Studentship in Russia is not only educational potential, but also unofficial envoys of the Azerbaijani realities, and they must bring our country’s achievements and success to the Russian cultural and scientific community. I am glad that AMOR has successfully fulfilled this particular mission in recent years," Aslanov underscored.
The Secretary General of the OIC Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation Elshad Isgandarov read out a message addressed to delegates in the conference on behalf of the organization’s board. The message reflects high assessment of AMOR’s activity and its Chairperson Leyla Aliyeva’s organizational talent. The message also notes Aliyeva’s personal contribution to the ideas of creating and developing the Global Movement "Youth for Alliance of Civilizations". "We believe that AMOR members and all Azerbaijani youth can be proud of the fact that Azerbaijan’s representative - Leyla Aliyeva - has been elected and decently represents 57 OIC member countries in the Youth Advisory Board of the Alliance of Civilizations," Isgandarov said.
Secretary General of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Mikhail Krotov, Chairman of the Youth Policy Committee of the Administration of St Petersburg Alexander Nikolaev, President of the St Petersburg State University Lyudmila Verbitskaya, co-chairperson of Coordinating Council of the All-Russian Public Organization "Young Guard" of "United Russia" Alena Arshinova, chairman of Association of youth and children's organizations of Russia Alexander Sokolov, as well as the conference’s guest Vice-President of Latin America Youth Forum Julian Lugo Mendez highlighted the Azerbaijani youth organization’s activity. Speakers stressed they observe AMOR’s progress and its integration into international processes with great satisfaction, and emphasized the organization’s positive contributions to the convergence of civilizations and cultures, international youth dialogue, as well as the strengthening friendly Russian-Azerbaijani relations.
Lieutenant General Alexander Volokh spoke about Azerbaijan’s just position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and heroism. "I am very glad that Azerbaijan has risen from the ashes," he said. Volokh emphasized Heydar Aliyev’s invaluable contribution to the preservation and development of the statehood. "Today's prosperous and developing Azerbaijan is amazing, but in any case, the Azerbaijani youth cannot allow the country's territorial integrity to remain violated. Young peoples’ challenge is to eliminate injustice and preserve the state’s sovereignty," Volokh said.
The attendees also congratulated Azerbaijan on the brilliant victory at Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
Later AMOR’s Moscow and regional youth organizations’ representatives addressed the event and talked about the work done.
Today the Forum will continue its work in the panel discussions on education, science and culture, healthy life and sports, economy, business and entrepreneurship, international cooperation, youth and the media outlets.
A photo exhibition "Azerbaijan" has been launched in the foyer of the Tavrichesky Palace. The conference participants and guests were handed out books and CDs issued by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as next issues of "AMOR" and "Baku" journals.
The first day of the Forum ended with a concert in the Peter and Paul Fortress with participation of the Azerbaijani and Russian pop stars.
