Thai Commerce authorities believe Thailand can increase exports by 15% this year

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) – The Thai Export Promotion Department is improving its marketing strategies to increase the value of Thai exports by 15 percent this year and focus marketing campaigns in Southeast Asia region.

Mrs Nanthawan Sakuntanak, director-general of the department, said Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai told Thai commercial attaches and foreign commercial attaches from over 100 countries to increase promotions for Thai products worldwide to raise the value of Thai exports by 15 percent or about 224.6 billion US dollars this year, instead of 12 percent as earlier expected.

Mrs. Nanthawan said that after hearing reports and plans from the commercial attaches, the Export Promotion Department was confident that the 15 percent export value increase could be achieved. She noted that the Department also ordered Thai commercial attaches to organize over 100 activities to help promote Thai products overseas.

Mrs. Nanthawan, meanwhile, noted that Thai industrialists were seeking in-depth information about Southeast Asian markets from the Export Promotion Department. She said the operators hoped they would have better market opportunities after the ASEAN Economic Community was established in 2015 and the regional market that covered a combined population of over 580 million, was subsequently integrated.

Mrs Nanthawan said that in the past two years, Southeast Asia became the biggest market for Thai export in place of the United States, Japan and the European Union. She added although the Thai export had faced with some negative factors of oil prices and foreign exchange fluctuations in the second half of this year, it benefited from stable foreign exchange rates lately.
