Thailand on high alert against "E Coli"

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) - Thailand has now been on high alert against "E coli", a new deadly bacteria causing severe diarrhea which has killed some 20 people worldwide.

Thai Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr. Paijit Warachit said on Saturday that hospitals across the country have already been instructed to be on high alert against the new deadly toxic strain of bacteria, believed to have originated from poor hygiene at a farm in transit, or at a shop or a food outlet.

Dr. Paijit confirmed, however, that no cases of the rare strain of the deadly bacteria, which is attacking European countries, have been found in Thailand so far.

The senior Thai health official insisted that his ministry has kept monitoring E coli in two ways, through food and drug checkpoints across the country and through hospitals throughout the country, which have been told to immediately send samples for laboratory tests on patients suffering from acute diarrhea.
