BANGKOK, June 3 (TNA) - King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, a renowned Thai university, has been ranked 17th on the global board for green universities among over 1,000 universities worldwide.
Associated Professor Sakarin Phumratana, Rector of the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi in Bangkok, said that the global ranking, conducted by a committee consisting of representatives from 20 leading universities worldwide, was organised by the University of Indonesia, aimed at promoting environmentally-friendly and sustainable policies and management of universities to ease the global warming problem, save energy, increase green areas and promote renewable energy.
Although listed 17th on the global board among over 1,000 universities worldwide entering the green university rating, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi has been ranked 1st in Thailand and 3rd in the Asia-Pacific region.
The rankings for the Thai university have resulted from its activities which have met green criteria since 2003, including the improvement of footpaths, bicycle lanes and their waste management system and the use of renewable energy, namely solar power and biogas made from food leftovers, as well as its development of the first bioethanol-fueled passenger bus in Thailand to carry students and university staff.
