Rs.2.7 billion earmarked for hepatitis treatment: Sharjeel Memon

Karachi, June 02, 2011 (PPI): In order to create awareness regarding hepatitis and its free treatment, Sindh government has earmarked 2.7 billion rupees, said Provincial Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon while talking to a delegation of Pakistan People’s Paramedics at his office on Thursday.

He informed the delegation that fund of 5 million rupees, earmarked for OPDs of government hospitals in Sindh, have been increase to 14.5 million rupees.

He also informed that in three years 46 million people were vaccinated for hepatitis prevention and 500 camps were setup throughout the province to create awareness regarding the perils of the liver disease.

Memon said under the People’s Primary Health Programme, 1029 Basic Health Units are operational in Sindh. He said 485 Basic Health Units were reactivated, while development works are in progress in 98 units.

The minister said government is aware of the problems the paramedics are up against, and are doing all to solve them.

Memon said the forthcoming provincial budget will bring good news for the public.
