Thailand-Myanmar discusses narcotics and transnational crimes
TACHILEK, June 2 (TNA) - The 67th meeting of the Thailand-Myanmar Township Border Committee (TBC) has concluded as authorities cordially discussed narcotics and transnational crimes.
The meeting was co-chaired here on Thursday by Colonel Jiradet Kamolphet, commander of an ad hoc unit from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of Thailand’s Pha Muang Task Force, and Major La Miang-u, acting commander of the 526th Rapid Movement Battalion of Myanmar.
Both sides agreed to join forces to suppress narcotics, traffickers and drugs users along the Thai-Myanmar border, following reports of a new wave of drug smuggling in the lead-up to Thailand’s July 3 election.
Furthermore, the Thai side asked Myanmar to help track down criminal suspects who recently fled from Thailand, and to consider opening a temporary border cross at Kiew Pha Wok area of Chiang Mai’s Chiang Dao district, to facilitate local border trade. (TNA)
