Thailand’s automotive output to reach 1.65 million units this year

BANGKOK, June 2 (TNA) - The Thailand Automotive Institute expects the country’s automotive output this year will equal the amount of last year’s at 1.65 million units, but short of the projected 1.8 million units.
Wanlop Tiasiri, director of the Thailand Automotive Institute, said three major automobile makers, Toyota, Isuzu, and Honda, that held an 80 percent combined share of the domestic automobile market were restoring back their normal productions.
Mr Wanlop said the full production capacity would resume in the second half of this year, when there would be a greater inflow of automotive parts into the country from Japan.
Mr Wanlop also said domestic vehicle sales this year were expected at about 850,000 units, while exports between 750,000-800,000 units.
Meanwhile, Honda announced it intended to produce 40,000 eco-cars this year after a stall since the March 11 disaster in Japan. (TNA)
