Shahzad’s corpse handed over to family after post-mortem
ISLAMABAD (PPI) - The dead body of missing noted journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad, who was tortured to death, handed over to his family after post-mortem here at the PIMS hospital on Wednesday. President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani, while condemning the murder of Saleem Shahzad have ordered investigation of the kidnapping and murder of Shahzad, 40.
It is worth mentioning that the journalist who worked for an Italian news agency and online news site Asia Times, registered in Hong Kong, went missing on Sunday. He was found dead near Mandi Bahauddin, 150 kilometers (93 miles) southeast of Islamabad.
Later, Saleem Shahzad’s coffin was taken to the airport for its transportation to Karachi, where his funeral prayer would be offered.
According to the post-mortem report, the dead body was carrying torture signs.
He disappeared two days after writing an investigative report in Asia Times Online about last week’s attack on Mehran naval air base.
