Authorities seize over Bt500mln worth of methamphetamine in Thai north
CHIANG RAI, June 1 (TNA) - Authorities have seized over 500 million baht worth of methamphetamine in Thailand’s northernmost Chiang Rai province, although traffickers fled from the arrest.
Local police and soldiers from Pha Muang Task Force spotted the group of men while patrolling the Sai River in Mae Sai district on Tuesday night, at which they were prompted for a search. The group however, fled the arrest, leaving behind their backpacks with around 900,000 methamphetamine tablets and 25 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine or “Ice”.
Thai authorities were currently seeking assistance from Myanmar in tracking down the traffickers. They initially believe the illicit drugs came from a factory in the northern part of Myanmar’s Shan State. (TNA)
