N Korea PM says rolled steel output increase priority task

PYONGYANG, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - Increasing the rolled steel output
volume, the successful completion of planting rice seedlings and the
expansion of plantations of young trees have been identified as priority
economic tasks for North Korea by Prime Minister of the Democratic People'
s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Choe Yong Rim the.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on
Wednesday that the government head visited with inspections the country's
several industrial facilities, including the Chollima large steel complex
that produces instrumental and structural steel, pipes and wire.
Choe Yong Rim also stressed the importance of modernization of
industrial enterprises "in accordance with modern scientific and
technological requirements for turning DPRK into a prosperous state."
Earlier, the prime minister visited the construction site of the
Huichon major hydroelectric power station in the north of DPRK and urged
the workers to expedite the construction of this important energy facility
for the country. He also visited several commercial and trading
enterprises in the country's capital, noting the importance of "practical
steps for improving standards of living."
KCNA reported that DPRK Premier Choe Yong Rim acquainted himself with
the work of the Chollima Steel Complex, the Anbyon Youth Power Station,
the Central Tree Nursery and the Town-ship Cooperative Farm of Kangnam
County on the spot. He convened consultative meetings at relevant units to
decisively increase production and push forward technological updating as
required by the great drive for building a thriving nation. The meetings
took measures to smoothly settle the technical issues arising in the work
of different domains such as the issues of realizing the Juche-orientation
of rolled steel production process based on the advanced technology and
producing and providing the highly efficient generating equipment,
industrializing the production of tree saplings and successfully
concluding the campaign of rice transplanting as an immediate task.
According to earlier reports of the agency, a remarkable progress has
been made in the construction of the Huichon Power Station in the northern
part of the DPRK. The Huichon Dam project has already been completed with
a road and parapets having appeared on the dam. A prefabrication method
was applied to the dam project for the first time in the construction of
hydropower stations, some 10,000 cubic meters of concrete tamping being
recorded a day to the maximum. The spillway project and the Ryongrim Dam
project are nearing completion. A waterway tunnel was excavated in a short
span of time and the power cable project between power stations No 1 and 2
finished. The generator structure of Huichon Power Station No 1 is taking
shape.
