All-Korean Committee missions to hold joint meeting in DPRK
PYONGYANG, June 1 (Itar-Tass) - The missions of the All-Korean
Committee (AKC) for the Implementation of the Declaration, dated June 15,
2000, in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), South Korea,
and abroad have decided to hold a joint meeting, considering the complex
situation on the Korean Peninsula, said an AKC press release circulated on
Wednesday.
The meeting is to be held in the border city of Kaesong (DPRK) on June
15 so as to mark the 11th anniversary of the signing of the document which
became the symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation. According to the AKC
press release, the delegations of the DPRK and South Korea will have 100
members each. The AKC missions abroad will send in 60 delegates to Kaesong.
Within the scope of the meeting, which. as the press release points
out, will make a contribution to a peaceful reunification of the country
in the spirit of the Declaration, dated June 15, it is planned to hold an
opening ceremony, a seminar, and a concert, and arrange for a tour of the
historical landmarks located in the Kaesong area which is also the site of
the inter-Korean industrial zone which continues to function despite the
aggravation of relations between the Korean North and South.
The Joint Declaration was signed on June 15, 2000, during the visit to
Pyongyang by the then President of the Republic of Korea, Kim Dae-jung,
who met with DPRK leader Kim Jong Il.
It is believed in the DPRK that the Declaration is a historic landmark
on the road to achieving reunification of the motherland in the interests
of changes in the destiny of the entire Korean people. The Korean Central
News Agency emphasizes that the Declaration remains a great document which
outlined ways towards a reunification of the motherland.
