GLO assures transparency in production of electoral ballots

BANGKOK, June 1 (TNA) - Thailand's Government Lottery Office (GLO) has assured transparency of its production of more than 53 million ballots for the forthcoming national poll, set on July 3.

GLO Director General Wanchai Surakul said on Tuesday when inspecting the printing of the ballot papers, that strict security measures were imposed on all relevant activities.

Wanchai acknowledged that close-circuit television cameras (CCTV) were installed in all areas of the ballot printing process, together with the monitoring of Election Commission (EC) officials, around the clock.

According to the GLO chief, the ballot printing was set from May 25-June 21, after which Thailand Post would take the printed ballots from the GLO's highly-secured storages to assigned locations of the election agency.

The GLO chief said all unauthorised vehicles, and even authorised ones, were barred from entering the GLO's printing house, until all the printed ballots could be delivered to the EC.

The GLO was authorised by the election agency to produce 53.5 million ballots for the party-list election, as part of the July 3 general election when eligible Thai voters would cast votes for both party-list and constituency-based candidates. (TNA)
