EC inspects election preparedness in Thai South

SONGKHLA, June 1 (TNA) - The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) has held a meeting with election officials in the southern border province of Songkhla, to assess preparations for an upcoming national poll on July 3.
EC Commissioner Sodsri Satayathum chaired the meeting on Tuesday, as she encouraged the local staff to perform their duties well, adding with confident the election would run smoothly.
The EC confirmed both on June 26 (the advanced election date) and July 3, helicopters would be on standby to transport ballot boxes, in case an untoward incident occurs in any of the three insurgency-plagued southern provinces.
In the meantime, Police General Pracha Promnok, adviser to the Pheu Thai Party leader, reported that over 2 million people sought to cast votes in advance, but complained they had only one day to do so.
He said the situation had limited the people’s ability to vote, and so urged the EC to turn to the issue. (TNA)
