Russia, Mongolia to continue talks on Ulaanbaatar Railways
MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Mongolia will continue
negotiations on issues related to the activity of the Ulaanbaatar
Railways, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday after talks
with his visiting Mongolian counterpart Tsakhia Elbegdorj.
"These issues include changes in the general operation of the
Ulaanbaatar Railways, including revision of shares in its authorized
capital, methods of managing the railway, distribution of posts in its
control bodies, ways of financing its activity and joint projects,"
Medvedev said.
Among such joint projects he cited the development of the Tavan-Tolgoi
coal deposit in the south of Mongolia.
"Negotiations on this issue will be continued, since a whole range of
issues are yet to be agreed," the Russian leader said and admitted that
some of the outstanding issues are rather complicated and "need to be
further clarified."
"In the long run, we will have to revise the 1949 agreement [on the
Ulaanbaatar Railways to adjust it to the present day and make it better
reflect national interests of both Mongolia and Russia," he stressed.
