Aussie drug suspect fronts media in Bali
An Australian man allegedly caught with methamphetamine and ecstasy while on holiday in Bali has been made to parade in front of the media by police.
The Melbourne man, who has been identified by police as Ricky Shane Rawson, was one of a number of drug suspects made to take part in the "perp walk" at the Denpasar Police Station in Bali on Tuesday.
Rawson made no comment during the embarrassing ordeal and mostly sat with his face hidden by a shirt, amid the constant flash from cameras from a large contingent of media.
The 48-year-old was allegedly found with a small bag of methamphetamine and two ecstasy pills following a raid on May 21 at the villa where he was staying in the upmarket area of Seminyak.
He could face 12 years in jail if convicted of possession.
Police on Tuesday said they raided the villa where Rawson was staying after receiving information that drugs were being consumed on the premises.
"The villa is suspected as a place for (a) drug party," the chief of the drug squad in Denpasar, Ambariady, said on Tuesday.
"He admitted the stuff was his."
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) last Tuesday confirmed that a 48-year-old Australian man from Victoria had been formally arrested and charged with possession.
He had appointed a lawyer and was receiving consular assistance, DFAT said.
