Health dept mulls over posting psychiatrists in jails
Karachi (PPI) Sindh Health Minister Dr. Sagheer Ahmed has said that prisoners across the province were being provided with medical facilities with assistance of donor agencies.
He made these remarks while talking to a delegation of International Committee of Red Cross, here on Friday. He said many prisoners were living with various diseases such as hepatitis, Tuberculosis besides psychological illnesses. "There's a dire need to raise their awareness about such diseases so that they could take precautionary measures," minister said.
He said deliberations were underway to appoint psychiatrists in different prisons. Minister hailed the cooperation extended by Red Cross (RC), saying the provincial health department meeting would convene a meeting with RC next week to discuss provision of health facilities to prisoners.
