Man dies, two injured on Sydney freeway
(AAP) - A man has died and two others have been rescued from the wreckage of a fatal four-car crash on a freeway north of Sydney.
The three became trapped at about 4.40pm AEST on Monday when four northbound vehicles were involved in a collision on the F3 freeway, near the Mooney Mooney Bridge, 20 kilometres north of Berowra.
The F3 was reopened at about 7pm AEST, after wreckage from the collision affected north and southbound traffic while rescue and salvage operations were carried out.
Police say one man has died and two others who were trapped in the wreckage have been removed and taken to Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital.
Police are appealing for motorists to obey the directions of personnel and remain in their cars.
"Do not get out and walk or stand on the roadway," police said in a statement.
"Emergency vehicles are continuing to access the crash site, and pedestrians may provide a hazard or be at risk of injury.
"Police and other emergency services will be checking vehicles which are stopped in traffic to ensure the welfare of the driver and any passengers."
