Dannii and Kris reject separation rumour
(AAP) - Speculation has been flying in British tabloids about a split between celebrity couple Dannii Minogue and Kris Smith, but today their publicist issued a brief statement that appears to show their relationship is alive and well.
"Thanks for your concern. We're happy to be back at home in Melbourne together as a family. We are committed to our relationship and Ethan as always," the statement reads.
It comes after reports of a separation in UK tabloids including the Daily Mirror, which quoted an unnamed friend as saying they had agreed to a trial separation after a series of rows sparked by the pair's hectic work schedules.
The friend told the paper the parents to 11-month-old Ethan are keen to make their three-year relationship work.
"Kris and Dannii have agreed to live separate lives for the time being. It is a chance to get some breathing space, reassess their priorities and hopefully realise that they are meant to be together," the source said.
"A trial split is never easy but Ethan remains the priority for both of them, and he always will."
The news follows Dannii's withdrawal earlier this month from judging duties on the hugely popular British The X Factor, with the 39-year-old claiming the program's schedule would clash with her commitments on Australia's Got Talent.
However, the former Home and Away star's withdrawal from the UK production is now thought to have been an attempt to spend more time with former rugby player, now model Smith and Ethan.
"Like any couple, Dannii and Kris have their ups and downs. At the moment they're going through an extremely rocky patch and simply aren't sure whether, this time, they will get through it unscathed," the source told the Mirror.
"As well as the stresses of first-time motherhood, Dannii has been through the wringer professionally, with so many commitments and big decisions to make.
"One of the main factors in her shock X Factor departure was Dannii's determination to save her relationship. She won't give up on her family without a fight."
The Herald Sun has reported Smith arrived in Australia on Friday and was later seen partying at a popular nightspot with Brian McFadden, Minogue's fellow judge on Australia's Got Talent.
The paper also reported Smith visited Minogue with their son on the set of the TV talent show on Sunday.
