Thai Airways International improves its in-flight facilities

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - Thai Airways International (THAI) has invested 5-6 billion baht into improving in-flight facilities to maintain its competitiveness.
Piyasvasti Amranand, president of THAI, on Monday led reporters to see a Boeing 747-400 aircraft that was the first of 12 equipped with better facilities, including individual displays for all seats on economy class. The renovation was completed on May 27.
Piyasvasti said the improvement satisfied clients and helped Thailand’s national carrier maintain its competitiveness. He said 5-6 billion baht was not a huge investment when compared with the price of a new airplane. The first six planes would have renovated seats and personal screens, like the one showcased, while the other half would be equipped with new seats and entertainment systems from 2012-13.
The THAI president said with the aircraft renovation, Thai Airways International wished to attract more passengers, especially on its Europe-bound routes. He noted the number of passengers on the routes dropped but the renovated aircraft would increase passengers.
He added that the airline was also procuring another 11 aircraft, both through purchases and leases, to serve its new business unit called “Thai Wings”. The subsidiaries were expected to start their flight services on domestic and short international routes in the second quarter of 2012 and would target middle market customers. (TNA)
