Polls do not worry “Abhisit”

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - Caretaker Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has dismissed worries concerning recent poll results showing a greater popularity for his political archrival, and that he would lose House seats in the July 3 election.
Mr Abhisit, who is also Democrat Party leader, said the surveys were incomplete and called on the organizers to uphold standard polling methods to ensure all respondents had enough information for their decisions.
Regarding the bargaining power of medium-sized political parties in the formation of the next government, Mr Abhisit said the cabinet structure would be known only after the election, but insisted his party had worked well with them.
Separately, Democrat secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban said Thai southerners would elect more Democrat candidates due to their performance shown during the Democrat-led coalition, and noted Mr Abhisit was the party’s only prime minister candidate.
In the meantime, Mr Suthep said he had ordered police protection for all political candidates, as the upcoming election created an environment of fierce competition. He also said without being specific, that a party was trying to create situations that could lead to violence. (TNA)
