Washington, Sept 8 PPI: United States Democratic Party's Presidential candidate senator Barack Obama congratulated Asif Ali Zardari on his election as President of Pakistan and praised Zardari's avowed commitment to return unconstitutionally
appropriated powers from presidency to the parliament.
``I congratulate Asif Ali Zardari on his election as President of Pakistan. I am
glad to hear of his pledge to return this office to its traditional stature, and
return to Parliament powers unconstitutionally appropriated to the presidency,''
Obama said in a statement.
``I am also glad to hear of the restoration of several deposed judges, an important
step towards restoration of a truly independent judiciary.''
