Experts discuss ASEAN Reference Laboratories criteria in Bangkok
BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - Food laboratory experts have met in Bangkok this week to discuss benefits of enhancing a food control system within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
A meeting entitled the “ASEAN Food Testing Laboratories Experts’ Meeting”, hosted by Thailand’s National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives took place in Bangkok, bringing together food laboratory experts from 10 ASEAN nations to elaborate on the criteria for selecting ASEAN Reference Laboratories, for food analysis and testing in the region.
During the two-day meeting, it was concluded that “ASEAN Food Reference Laboratories (AFRL)” would take charge of providing information, advice and technical training for laboratories across ASEAN.
The meeting also decided that the title of “ASEAN Reference Laboratory (ARL)” should be renamed to the “ASEAN Food Reference Laboratories (AFRL)” to avoid duplication of the work of reference laboratories of other sectors in the region.
The meeting results would be circulated for comments from ASEAN Member States before being submitted for consideration of the next ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards & Quality. (TNA)
