SRV protests against PRC boats' intrusion into its territorial waters
HANOI, May 30 (Itar-Tass) -- Vietnam has made a resolute protest to
China in connection with the intrusion of its patrol boats into the SRV territorial waters in the South China Sea.
As a statement of a spokesman for the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry
issued on Monday says, one of three boats closely approached a Vietnamese research vessel which was engaged in studying the seismic state of the sea bottom. Chinese servicemen put out of order the equipment installed at the bottom by cutting the cable which connected it with the deck of the Vietnamese ship.
"Such actions seriously violate Vietnam's sovereignty and
jurisprudence with regard to its continental shelf and exclusive economic zone," director of the Information and Press Department of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Nguyen Phuong Nga stated. "Vietnam demands that the Chinese side refrain from actions which call in question Vietnam's sovereign rights for its exclusive economic zone and territorial waters," the diplomat stressed.
