Kuban river hydraulic situation worsens re higher water discharge

KRASNODAR, May 30 (Itar-Tass) -- The hydraulic situation in the Kuban
River basin has deteriorated over a higher water discharge from the
Krasnodar water reservoir, the committee for prevention and cleanup of
emergency situations in Krasnodar said at a meeting on Sunday.
"All city emergency services received warnings about emergency
situations and were put on high alert," a source in the Krasnodar
territorial emergencies department told Itar-Tass on Sunday. Emergency
situations are highly probable in the countryside settlements near the
town of Elizavetinskaya and Gorogorody.
Krasnodar Mayor Vladimir Yevlanov, who is working in the committee,
demanded to put on alert all available forces and machinery and to arrange
the constant collection, processing and analyzing of the information about
the current situation and to reinforce the bank protection works if
necessary. The current situation is complicated by the fact that the Kuban
River is flowing through the city of Krasnodar from the water reservoir.
The mayor recalled about personal responsibility of each executive
official for the response to the current situation and the forecasting of
probable disasters.
The Krasnodar territorial emergencies department also warned about a
probable flood of several Kuban districts over a higher water discharge
from the Krasnodar water reservoir. The emergency situations over a flood
are forecast in five districts of the territory.
Five foothill districts are already cleaning up the aftermaths of the
flood, which broke out on May 24 over a sharp rise in the water level on
the rivers.
