Melkert visits Kirkuk, meets with security chiefs
Kirkuk (NINA) - Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq Ad Melkert met with Iraqi and U.S. security leaders in Kirkuk.
Police chief of Kirkuk, Maj. Gen. Jamal Taher, said to NINA on Sunday "Melkert visited Kirkuk and met with the army, police, and Peshmirga leaders in the presence of leaders from the U.S. army in the province. The latest developments in security and preparedness of Iraqi forces were discussed."
He continued "we made clear, during the meeting, activity of terrorist groups in Kirkuk and their attempts to destabilize the security and stability of Kirkuk," adding that the meeting was positive and good.
