Abhisit campaigned in Thai eastern provinces while Yingluck vowed to promote reconciliation
BANGKOK, May 29 (TNA) - Vote campaigns of Thai political parties are gaining momentum. Today caretaker Prime Minister and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva held a campaign tour to the East while his archrival Yingluck Shinawatra of the Pheu Thai Party promised to join forces with all parties to promote national reconciliation.
Late this morning Mr Abhisit and many key Democrats helped their candidates in Chon Buri campaign for votes. They visited local schools and the Sattahip Naval Base. Mr Abhisit also invited local people to ask him questions. He was asked about the Democrat Party’s policy on drug suppression and railway development.
Mr Abhisit said his party viewed solutions on narcotic and economic problems as high priorities. He said it had already formed an ad hoc team consisting of authorities from many concerned agencies to suppress narcotics.
Regarding railway development, Mr Abhisit said his government planned to improve train speeds and offer as many rail routes as possible. He noted that his party would hold a big public speech campaign in Chon Buri either mid or late June.
This afternoon Mr Abhisit and Democrat candidates campaigned at Northern Pattaya beach. They presented tourism policies there before travelling to Chachoengsao province.
Meanwhile, Ms Yingluck, the No. 1 list candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, and her son went to pay homage to the Emerald Buddha at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and also pay respect to the nearby City Pillar.
Ms Yingluck said although her campaign stage was interfered yesterday, she did not expect such incidents to repeat often and she would proceed with her planned campaign trips. She also said that her party was ready to team up with the other parties that shared the same political stance in order to promote national reconciliation.
In response to the proposal that people should elect the prime minister who can really ensure reconciliation, Ms Yingluck said the selection of the next prime minister was a parliamentary process. She also commented that it was too early to decide if her party should team up with the Bhumjaithai Party. (TNA)
