Expert: Iraq has the right to file international lawsuit against Kuwait
Baghdad (NINA) – Salim Hawas Al Saidi said "article 11 of the Geneva Convention of 1923, solves water conflicts between riparian states, and any dispute between two states on a waterway and determine its limits is defined in this agreement, approved by all countries of the world, because it sets the international responsibility and its conditions, and the wrongful and illegal act."
He told NINA that "Iraq and Kuwait among the countries that signed this agreement, so, there are articles which can resolve the conflict between the two countries in the building of Great Mubarak Port.”
He added "the solutions are either; satisfaction, compensations, or return to the status quo ante," criticizing, at the same time, having the Minister of Transportation on a news conference to explain the issue without the presence of the Foreign Minister in this conference or another conference.
He concluded "the issue is of an international nature and needs for a stance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transportation’s role is technical, and it explained the relevance of the issue to its authorities, so, it's important that Ministry of Foreign Affairs declares its position or steps of movement."
