ESCAP APPROVES RESOLUTIONS INITIATED BY MONGOLIA


Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The 67th Commission Session of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) finished May 25 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
The commission session has endorsed resolutions initiated by the government of Mongolia, on Ulaanbaatar Declaration, on strengthening statistical skills in Asia-Pacific region, and on role of cooperatives in social development of the region.
The Ulaanbaatar Declaration was approved at a high-level consultative meeting themed “Difficulties faced to Asia-Pacific landlocked countries” April this year. The declaration will be maintained by landlocked developing countries, transit countries and developmental partner countries. Furthermore, this declaration has a clause urging the regional countries for joining the multi-lateral agreement on establishing the International Think-Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries.
The resolutions approved by Mongolia have been co-authored up by Australia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Thailand, Turkey, the Philippines and India.
