Thai government raises subsidy of diesel by Bt0.40/litre

BANGKOK, May 27 (TNA) - Thailand's Energy Policy Committee has resolved to raise its subsidy of the state oil fund for diesel by 40 satang per litre, or to cut the government's levy imposed on diesel by 40 satang per litre, effective from Saturday.
Permanent Secretary for Energy Nokhun Sithipong announced after a meeting of the Energy Policy Committee on Friday that as of May 28, the Thai government's levy on domestic sales of diesel to partly finance the state oil fund will be reduced from 2.20 baht per litre to 1.80 baht.
Nokhun acknowledged that the new move would relieve local oil traders' costs after world oil prices had increased by nearly 4 US dollar a barrel, reducing their marketing margin for diesel to only 16 satang per litre, and would, therefore, help keep retail prices of diesel on the domestic market unchanged for a certain period of time (TNA)
