NKorea wants early resumption of six-party talks - Xinhua

BEIJING, May 27 (Itar-Tass) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Il
advocated an early resumption of six-party talks on the nuclear problem on
the Korean Peninsula, the Xinhua news agency said on Thursday commenting
on Kim's unofficial visit to China on May 20 - 26.
It said Kim made the statement at a meeting with Chinese President Hu
Jintao.
"China maintains that related parties should continuously hold high
the banner of safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and
denuclearization, remain calm and restrained, show flexibility, remove
obstacles, improve relations and make positive efforts to ultimately
accomplish peace, stability and development on the peninsula", Xinhua
quoted Hu as saying.
Kim said his country "is in great need of a stable neighboring
environment" to promote economic development. He also said he wants "to
ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula, stick to the objective of
denuclearization" and believes the six-party talks should be resumed at an
early date.
Kim expressed hope the relations of his country with South Korea can
be improved, according to Xinhua.
Kim also appreciated Chinese efforts "on pushing for the resumption of
the six-party talks and safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean
Peninsula."
