“Abhisit” advises “Newin” to keep running his football club and stay out of politics

BANGKOK, May 26 (TNA) - Caretaker Prime Minister and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has reaffirmed his party would win more than 160 House seats and dismissed Newin’s theory on the election outcome and the new prime minister.

Abhisit was responding to the Bhumjaithai Party de facto leader’s remark that neither he nor Ms Yingluck Shinawatra, the No. 1 candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, would be the next prime minister, despite winning a lion’s share of House seats after the July 3 election.

Mr Abhisit said it was normal for Mr Newin to try to attract the media as his party was small and did not get much media attention. He said that Mr Newin’s prediction would be wrong and that the result of a poll by Mr Newin and that of the Pheu Thai Party’s were different, insisting that his Democrat Party would win more than 160 House seats.

“Mr Newin’s forecast is incorrect. He’d better continue running his football club. It may be an attempt to turn the spotlight on his party but the prediction is wrong,” Mr Abhisit said.

He declined to comment on the report that Maj Gen Sanan Kachornprasart, chief adviser to the Chart Thai Pattana Party, should be the next prime minister to promote reconciliation. He advised all parties to wait for the outcome of the election.

In response to Mr Newin’s remark, Prompong Nopparit, spokesman of the Pheu Thai Party, said the remark confirmed the tip from a source of Pheu Thai that a third person would be promoted to be the prime minister if the Pheu Thai Party won the election.

Mr Prompong confirmed that his party would promote Ms Yingluck as the next prime minister, making her the first female prime minister of Thailand.

He commented that Mr Newin tried to undermine the popularity of the Pheu Thai Party which was the most favorable choice of surveyed people in the North, Bangkok and other regions. (TNA)
