More police to protect MP candidates in Thailand

BANGKOK, May 26 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Police has deployed more personnel to protect MP candidates as the July 3rd election draws near.
National Police Chief Police General Wichean Potephosree met with the police election security center on Thursday to facilitate greater candidate protection in constituencies with fierce competition.
The norm in recent elections would see two police officers assigned to each candidate.
Pol Gen Wichean said stern security measures have been imposed in Nakhon Ratchasima, a province housing many rivaling candidates. Besides, the police chief added, he was ready to call for an investigation into rumors of vote extortion by security personnel.
On Thursday, Pheu Thai Party campaign director for Bangkok, Wicharn Meenchainant, submitted photo evidence to police, accusing soldiers of threatening candidates in Lat Phrao, Wang Thong Lang, Bueng Kum, Khannayao and Nong Chok districts.
At this stage, Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon stilled denied any possible military intervention in Thai politics. (TNA)
