Turkmenistan to export 30 bln cubic meters of gas to China in 2012
MOSCOW, May 25 (Itar-Tass) - Turkmenistan intends to export 30 billion
cubic meters of gas to China in 2012, chairman of the Turkmengas
corporation Amanali Khanaliyev said at the opening of the 2nd
International Gas Congress here on Wednesday.
"Thirteen billion cubic meters of this gas will be supplied from the
Bagtyyarlyk site, where the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation is
operating under a production sharing agreement, and the remaining 17
billion will be supplied from the eastern deposits on the left bank of the
Amudarya," Khanaliyev said.
The head of the Turkmen corporation reminded that the
Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China pipeline was commissioned in
December 2009. Its length totals 7,000 kilometers. This trans-Asia
pipeline will provide for annual supplies of up to 40 billion cubic meters
of Turkmen natural gas to China in the next three decades," he noted.
This year, Turkmenistan plans to sell China 17 billion cubic meters of
gas. In 2010, it sold some 6 billion cubic meters of gas to China.
Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov addressed the
participants in the Congress, expressing confidence that this important
event would "give a powerful impulse to the ongoing surveys and mining of
fuels on land and in the Caspian Sea, boost the volumes of processed
natural gas and facilitate the development of Turkmenistan's gas industry
in general."
The president underlined that the country's oil and gas sector which
holds leading positions in the world by the reserves of gas fields, is
facing an important task, namely a careful, rational use of the tremendous
reserves of natural resources."
In this connection, he noted that the development of the southern
Yoloten-Osman deposit, one of the world's largest gas reserves, requires
new foreign investments, in addition to the already attracted 14 billion
dollars.
The Congress organizers said the participants number over 500. They
represent 160 international organizations and companies from 31 countries
the world over. The high level of the forum is secured by the
participation of officialis from the European Commission, the Energy
Charter, and energy ministries and departments of the USA, Russia, the
United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and South Korea.
An exhibition has been opened within the framework of the Congress. It
involves 25 companies, the world's leading producers from 20 countries,
including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Greece, Turkey, the
United Arab Emirates, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Ukraine and
Kazakhstan.
