RF hails foreign investments in Kurils infrastructure development

MOSCOW, May 25 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia welcomes the investments of
foreign companies, including those from Japan, in the development of the
infrastructure of the Kuril Islands, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister
Alexei Borodavkin told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"In fact, there are some reports that several companies from South
Korea, China and other countries will show interest in the Far East in
general and in the Kuril Islands," Borodavkin said. Meanwhile, under the
Russian presidential instructions Russian investments are growing in this
region under the targeted federal program. The business is naturally
interested in the projects with the state investments. "We welcome foreign
investments, including those in the Kuril Islands," he noted.
"Those proposals that we have made for the participation of Japanese
partners in these projects remain in effect," the deputy foreign minister
said. "We would welcome Japanese business, if it comes to the region,"
Borodavkin underlined.
