Thai PM: Amnesty will not lead to national reconciliation

BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA) - Thai caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Wednesday that an amnesty for corrupt politicians would not lead to national reconciliation; so, his Democrat Party opposes the political pardon.

During his special interview with Modernine television station Wednesday morning, Abhisit insisted that national reconciliation should not begin with political amnesty, but the strict observation of rules and laws in order to sustain social order in the long run.

The Thai caretaker premier said if the justice system has flaws, it must be corrected and rehabilitation will be introduced.

During the special interview and his electoral campaign in Bangkok's Huay Kwang area later in the day, Abhisit confirmed that all policies of his party could be realized, namely those on a 25 per cent wage hike, public welfare, a 15-year free education and loans for undergraduates’ tuition fees and costs of living.
