Chinese Foreign Minister arrives
New Delhi/Kolkata, Sep 7 (PTI) Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi arrived here Sunday on a three-day visit to India during which he will hold talks with Indian leadership which is expected to convey its disappointment to him about Beijing's stand at the Vienna meeting of N.S.G. granting waiver to New Delhi's nuclear trade.
Yang, who reaches in New Delhi Monday, will call on Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh and later hold talks with External
Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
National Security Advisor M. K. Narayanan had said
Saturday that India would take up the issue of China's stand
at the N.S.G. meet during the talks Monday and "we will convey
some kind of disappointment to him.....because we expected
something more from them".
Beijing's stand at the Vienna meeting came as a surprise
to India especially after Chinese President Hu Jintato and
Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had assured Manmohan Singh that
their country would take a constructive stand on the issue.
The border issue and bilateral trade are also expected
to come up for discussion in the talks between Mukherjee and
Yang.
The two countries have so far held 11 rounds of talks on
the boundary issue.
Sino-Indian trade is at present to the tune of 38.7
billion dollars and the two sides have agreed to push it up to
60 billion dollars by 2010.
Meanwhile, on his arrival in Kolkata, Yang lauded the
Indo-Sino relationship saying his visit to India was to
strengthen ties further.
"Indo-Sino relationship at present is good, but I am
here to further strengthen it," the Chinese Foreign Minister
said.
On his maiden visit to India, Jiechi was received at the
airport by the Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan and
senior West Bengal government officials. PTI COR
