Yemen seeks Japanese support for establishing regional fighting
SANA'A, Sep 07 (Saba) - Minister of Transport Khalid Ibrahim
al-Wazeer met on Sunday the Japanese ambassador to Yemen Masakazu
Toshikage to discuss the possibility of getting Japanese support to
establish a regional center for combating maritime piracy.
The meeting brought up aspects of cooperation between the two
countries in areas such as sea transport as well as fighting sea
piracy.
Al-Wazeer stressed the necessity of setting up such center which as
he says will not only serve regional interests but also help boost
international efforts to fight sea piracy in international waters
near Somalia.
Toshikage expressed his government readiness to support the center,
adding that Japan is now considering to support Yemen to train its
coastguards.
