Sports Cricket Niall O'Brien out of Ireland squad for two ODIs against Pakistan
Dublin, May 24, 2011 (PPI): Andrew Poynter will replace Niall O'Brien in the Ireland cricket squad for two match one-day internationals against Pakistan at Stormont on 28 and 30 May.
O'Brien suffered a fracture in his left hand after being struck by Simon Jones during his innings of 121 for Northants against Hampshire on Friday.
Ireland coach Phil Simmons said: "It's obviously a big blow to lose Niall as he has been in such excellent touch this season. We're lucky in that we have Gary Wilson as a back-up keeper. Poynter has never let us down any time he's been called upon."
An obviously disappointed O'Brien said: "It's so disappointing to miss these games, as I've obviously good memories of playing Pakistan after winning Man of the Match award when we beat them in the 2007 World Cup."
