82pc Pakistanis consider health, family more important than wealth: Survey
ISLAMABAD, May 24, 2011 (PPI): An overwhelming majority of 82% Pakistanis say they consider their health and family to be more important than wealth which is considered most important by only 8%, The priorities displayed by these results, however, may not match the public’s actual behaviour, showed the result of a survey conducted by Gilani Research Foundation/Gallup Pakistan.
In the survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked the following question, “For some people, health is more important than wealth while some consider wealth more important. What is most important for you?” Results show that an overwhelming 61% of the respondents said they consider health to be most important while another 21% said family is most important for them. Only 8% said wealth is their top priority in life while another 8% said so about education. 2% did not respond.
These results show that a vast majority claims that if circumstances force a choice, they choose health over wealth. These attitudes may or may not be borne out by their actual behaviour in life.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2746 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during April 2010. Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
