President Asif Zardari’s father Hakim Ali Zardari passes away
Islamabad, May 24, 2011 (PPI): Hakim Ali Zardari, a senior politician and father of President Asif Ali Zardari, passed away here on Tuesday after protracted illness at the age of 81. He was admitted at PIMS since March last.
Late Hakim Ali Zardari would be laid to rest at his native town Nawabshah (Benazirabad) in Sindh.
Hakim Ali Zardari was born in 1930. He was a big agriculturist of Nawabshah District. Hakim Ali Zardari, who inherited politics, took part in politics and was elected as Member District Council Nawabshah in the start of his political career. He was elected as Member National Assembly (MNA) on Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) ticket in General Election 1970. He resigned from PPP due to differences with party leadership and joined National Awami Party (ANP). He contested non-party based General Election 1985 during General Ziaul Haq but could not succeed.
He joined PPP again after the marriage of his son Asif Ali Zardari to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He contested the General Election 1988 on PPP ticket and was elected as MNA from Nawabshah District. After election the Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto appointed him as the Chairman Public Accounts Committee.
He was once again elected as MNA from Nawabshah in General Election 1993 on PPP ticket. He did not participate in General Election 1997, 2002 and 2008.
