Russian Church sends over 35 mln rbl to quake-hit Japan
MOSCOW, May 24 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Orthodox Church has raised by
now 36,980,000 rubles as relief to Japan that suffered from an earthquake.
35,427,000 rubles out of this sum were already transferred to the Japanese
Autonomous Orthodox Church, Vasily Rulinsky, press secretary of the
Synodal Department for Charities and Social Service of the Russian
Orthodox Church, told Itar-Tass.
Donations are sent from all over the world - from Madrid and Zurich,
Jerusalem and Vilnius, London and Frankfurt am Main. Even Cuba joined in
the effort to give assistance to Japan. Nearly 18,000 euro and over 4,000
dollars came from abroad and will shortly be sent to Japan.
The biggest number of donations came from Russia and Ukraine - over
2,000 money transfers to sums from 100 rubles to three millions.
