Philippine President to visit Thailand
BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - Philippine President Benigno Aquino III is scheduled to pay an official visit to Thailand from May 26-27, during which sound bilateral ties and cooperation between Bangkok and Manila are expected to be further strengthened.
Upon his arrival at Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi Airport for the two-day official trip as invited by the Thai government, the Philippine President will be received by Thai caretaker deputy prime minister Trairong Suwannakhiri. He will then meet a group of business operators, representing the Thai private sector at his hotel.
The Philippine top leader will later meet and hold talks with Thai caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at Government House, where a ceremony to officially welcome him will also be held.
The Thai and Philippine leaders are scheduled to hold a joint press conference after the talks. Thai caretaker premier Abhisit will then host a dinner banquet in honour of the Philippine President at the Government House.
The Philippine President is scheduled to be conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Economics by Bangkok's Kasetsart University on May 27.
Before ending his official visit to Bangkok later in the day, the Philippine President will travel to Siriraj Hospital, where he will extend his written best wishes for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's full recovery, and will meet with the Filipino community in Thailand at his hotel prior to his departure from the Thai capital.
Meanwhile, Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Thani Thongphakdi said that the Philippine President's upcoming trip to Bangkok, his first-ever after taking office in January 2010, was also part of his introductory tours to neighbouring member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Thailand.
