Candidacy registration for Thai House seats kicks off

BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - The registration for constituency-based candidates to file a total of 375 seats in Thailand's House of Representatives kicked off nationwide on Tuesday and will continue until May 28.

In Bangkok, the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) is registering candidates at Thai-Japanese youth sports centre in Din Daeng district, which was also the venue for the registration of party-listed candidates from May 19-23.

Candidates of the caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiv's Democrat Party are running in 33 constituencies in Bangkok first arrived at the venue about an hour before the registration opened at 8:30am. They were given morale support from their now No 1 candidate Abhisit, who dropped by on his way to work at Government House.

"Yingluck Shinawatra", the No 1 listed candidate of the Puea Thai Party, and the youngest sister of exiled ex-Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, also led 33 candidates from her party to the registration.

Constituency-based candidates of many other political parties also went for the registration.

Active registrations for candidates in other provinces running for the remaining Thai House seats were also reported from other venues designated by the election agency. (TNA)
