AutoSib exhibition features hybrid trolleybus

NOVOSIBIRSK, May 24 (Itar-Tass) - A specialized exhibition of
transport vehicles, spare parts, equipment, and vehicle servicing, the
AutoSib-2011, opens here on Tuesday.
An official in the Siberian Fair Company, which organized the
exhibition, has told Itar-Tass that about 150 companies from many regions
of Russia, as well as from Belarus, Germany, Italy, and Finland
participate in it.
The purpose of the exhibition is to acquaint its participants with new
developments and proposals regarding the transport sector. Exhibitors are
to demonstrate new models of cars, trucks, special-purpose vehicles,
street washing and cleaning machinery, as well as minibuses, urban
passenger and tourist transport.
A group of Novosibirsk-based firms are to put on display a model of
hybrid trolleybus which can do without a trolley wire. According to Andrei
Ksenzov, First Vice-Mayor of Novosibirsk, "This is Russia's first
experience in practical introduction of autonomous movement technologies
to the trolleybus".
The hybrid trolleybus can run without a trolley wire for a distance of
up to 25 km. This is resultant of a special storage battery which is
charged from wires in the process of movement. The technological novelty
is expected to help extend the existing trolleybus lines without
additional resources from the city budget. The unusual trolleybus has
stood running ttrials successfully.
