Credit card holders get new soft loan from Thai govt

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - Credit card holders in Thailand can now seek soft loan from three state banks, thanks to an initiative launched by the Thai government on Monday.
The Thai permanent secretary for finance and the executives of the three state banks, named Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, the Government Savings Bank (GSB) and Islamic Bank of Thailand, launched the scheme on behalf of the government--under which a total of 10 billion baht lending with a 10-per cent annual interest rate will be available for credit card holders with good financial records for the period June 1-August 31, 2011.
Credit card holders can each borrow up to five fold their monthly revenues or salaries based on legal conditions separately set by the individual banks, but the amount must not exceed 300,000 baht and they are not allowed to seek any other credit card-borne loan for one year.
Meanwhile, Thai Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said that his ministry is also considering launching a new soft loan scheme for debit card holders with lower incomes, and that the new plan is likely to be concluded in details shortly. (TNA)
